BREAKFAST CLUB OF CANADA
IMPACT
NUTRITION AT WORK FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS
Convinced that nutrition is a lever for public health and academic success, the Club has proudly announced
the creation of a nutrition service within its Programs team. A dietitian will now be fully dedicated to this task,
working with the existing Nutrition Committee made up of professionals in the field. This initiative is aimed at
ramping up the Club’s efforts on the ground.
Our approach to nutrition is based on the conviction that breakfast programs offer much more than access
to a variety of nutritious food; they also have an educational impact by fostering sustainable healthy eating
habits in children. The Club stands out for this nutritional support and guidance, an added value that enables
education environments (childcare centres, schools and school communities) to provide complete, varied
and nutritious breakfasts.
Support takes the form of practical tools, webinars, training and recipes designed to inspire, promote the
adoption of best practices, and encourage schools and school communities to give their very best. The teams
on the ground can use these up-to-date and accessible resources to make every breakfast a nourishing and
educational experience.
This year, some 30 new resources were made available to schools, including:
• a webinar on food waste;
• training sessions for school personnel;
• downloadable tools from the School’s Corner on our website (a total of 86 documents specifically on
nutrition).
Through its ongoing efforts to incorporate nutrition into its actions on the ground, the Club is furthering its
impact on children’s academic success, overall health and adoption of sustainable healthy eating habits. A
shared finding emerged from the schools surveyed this year: 97% observed that their breakfast program had a
positive influence on students’ eating habits.
“The impact of our programs extends beyond the school walls. A Montreal-area school contacted me to say that parents
are now interested in buying the whole-wheat bread offered through the program. The kids love it, and the families want to
continue at home the habits developed at school.”

SHARED AMBITIONS, COLLECTIVE IMPACT!
Partnerships with organizations that share the Club’s values and goals are essential to supporting community
autonomy and empowerment regarding school nutrition. As a facilitator and development partner with a
vision of regional engagement, the Club shares its expertise in school food programs while leveraging the
know-how of these organizations. These collaborations strengthen our role as an ally on the ground, and
extend the reach of our programs to children and their communities.
The Collective Engagement approach broadens the scope of the Club’s school nutrition efforts beyond just
food assistance. It aims to position school nutrition front and centre in communities by:
• sharing our vision of innovative school nutrition;
• increasing our impact on food systems;
• constantly improving our programs.
