HIGHLIGHTS
2017
Striving to further the impact of its work, the Club establishes its first community partnership with Relais
Populaire to reinforce local food security efforts by ensuring the coordination, implementation and
sustainability of the breakfast programs.
The partnership between the Club and Feed NB begins with nine schools. Six years later, it’s serving 130
schools across New Brunswick.
2018
The Club expands its mission to
include children in 15 childcare
centres. It is currently active in 45
childcare centres in Quebec.
“These childcare breakfast programs are a game-changer. They
make sure that children get the nutrition they need, and that has
a huge effect on their mood and their behaviour throughout the
day. When my son eats a nutritious breakfast in the morning, I
can see it: he’s calmer and more focused, and he doesn’t have as
many energy swings. Even when we get home in the evening, he
isn’t restless, and I can tell he’s had a good day.”

In 2018, the Ministère de l’Éducation du Québec announced major funding of $50 million over five years
to support the implementation of breakfast programs in schools in underprivileged areas. Thanks to this
partnership, Breakfast Club of Canada has been able to significantly expand its work and reach tens of
thousands more children across Quebec.
2020: PIVOTING TO
CONTINUE PROVIDING FOOD
“Seeing so many kids going without
their usual breakfast got us quickly
innovating and working closely with
our partners to make sure no child
got overlooked.”

2024: BUILDING AN EQUITABLE FUTURE
April 2024 marks a historic moment, with
the Government of Canada announcing
a $1-billion investment over five years for
a National School Food Program, a clear
acknowledgement of the importance of
nutrition in children’s success.
2020
The pandemic pushes more than a million children into
food insecurity, and the Club responds by setting up an
emergency fund and redirecting its resources to ensure
continued access to nutritious breakfasts.
To meet the increased demand for school nutrition,
the Club takes a major step with the opening of a
16,500-square-foot warehouse in Varennes in 2020. This
new space, backed by the support of donors, partners
and the government, gives the Club the capacity to bring
breakfast programs to nearly 700 schools across Quebec.

has evolved. It highlights even more
key moments in our journey, from our
