BREAKFAST CLUB OF CANADA
HIGHLIGHTS
QUEBEC’S LEADERSHIP IN SCHOOL NUTRITION
DAY AT THE QUEBEC NATIONAL ASSEMBLY
On November 6, 2024, the Club hosted a booth for the second
time at the Quebec National Assembly and met with several
MNAs to discuss the challenges surrounding food security.
The day was also marked by a motion introduced on the floor
of the Assembly to applaud the Club’s 30 years of existence
and its support for the health and academic success of the
province’s students. We took this opportunity to call on
MNAs to facilitate the landing of federal funds earmarked for
school nutrition, and outlined for them the concrete realities
and needs observed in their respective constituencies and
throughout Quebec.
QUEBEC FUNDING
On March 7, 2025, Quebec signed its bilateral agreement
under the National School Food Program, formalized
in an announcement made at the Club’s distribution
centre, along with several stakeholders, marking a key
step in the deployment of federal funds in Quebec. The
organization, provincial and federal ministers, and other
school nutrition stakeholders were on hand to highlight
this important milestone.
PROGRAMME ALIMENTATION SANTÉ (PAS)
The Club remains committed to offering increasingly healthy and sustainable meals through the PAS project, funded
by the Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation du Québec (MAPAQ ), aimed at completely
revamping its menus. This project, conducted in collaboration with the Institute of Nutrition and Functional Foods
(INAF) and Équiterre, aligns with a recently reaffirmed strategic vision, according to which school meals must be
healthy, sustainable, and help drive the socio-ecological transition of the food system.
To achieve this objective, the Club has surrounded itself with recognized partners: INAF, through its Food
Quality Observatory and Innovation Support Service, and Équiterre, which contributes expertise in healthy,
local and sustainable food, as well as its engagement skills in partnering to build this new food offering and
foster its adoption by all players in the food chain.
